Dear parent/carer,

Another jam packed week full of challenging learning and activities to keep our students busy! The children had lots of fun this week celebrating our first ever Poetry Week. Some of the activities planned included watching video clips of famous poets/authors sharing their favourite poems, a poetry writing competition and pupil performances of their own poems including music and sound effects.

Internet Safety

As a part of today’s Internet Safety Day, all pupils (Years 1 to 6) attended an E-Safety workshop led by Mary Rebelo (computing consultant). She will also be leading a workshop for all parents/carers this afternoon. We will be serving tea and coffee in the school hall from 2.45pm (her talk will start at 3pm). Each class will be doing some follow up work next week as a part of our planned E-Safety Week.

Friendship and E-Safety Week

Throughout next week we will be celebrating our Friendship Week in school. We have planned lots of cross-curricular work for the children to enjoy including art work and assemblies. On Monday, each child will pick a ‘secret friend’ who they need to make an extra special effort to be kind to all week. The identity of these ‘Secret Friends’ will be announced next Friday! We will also be holding our E-Safety Week at the same time with a focus on being kind and friendly online.

 Teachers Hearing Pupils Read

All teachers aim to hear all of their pupils read at least every three weeks. When staff listen to readers, they do not write a comment in their Reading Record Book (as they keep a separate, agreed, record of reading progress).

Netball

On Monday 29th January, the netball team played a match against St Bernadette’s. It was their best score all year despite the amount of girls who dropped out. They had a great time and are proud to be on the St Mary’s netball team. The team was integrated by Y5 (Hallie, Valentina, Abigail, Viola and Amelia) and Y6 (Orlaith.)

 Year 2 Class Assembly

Year 2’s class assembly will take place next Tuesday 6th February - at 3pm. All parents, carers and family members are most welcome to attend. The main entrance to school will be opened by a member of staff shortly before 3pm, so that all visitors can make their way to the school hall.

Years 5 and 6 Trip

Next Tuesday (6th Feb), Years 5 and 6 will visit the Harry Potter - Warner Brothers Studio in Leavesden. All pupils attending require a packed lunch in a disposable carrier bag (labelled with their name).

Half Term Holiday

Reminder: We break up for the February holiday on Friday 9th February (usual time). Pupils are due back to school on Monday 19th February. All early morning support groups (Yr6 Kent, Early Bird, 1:1 support) will resume on this day.

Request for Early Years

Could Early Years parents and carers donate any envelopes and writing paper to use in class. Thank you

Fundraising for the School

We are arranging a clothing collection to raise funds for the school for after half term.  At the moment we have very little storage space and would ask that if you have any unwanted clothing you could store them for us. The clothes collection bags will be sent out week beginning 5th February and we ask if these can be brought into school on Monday 19th February as these will be collected first thing on Tuesday. We thank you in anticipation of receiving lots of bags of unwanted clothing, linens, shoes, bags and belts to raise money.
