Dear parent/carer,

Throughout next week we will be holding our Test Week in school. All pupils (Year 1 upwards) will complete various age appropriate assessments in Maths, Reading, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. They will also complete an assessed piece of independent writing. The results will be analysed and used to plan appropriate targets and support. This information will be shared with parents/carers at our next Parents’ Evenings - scheduled for after the Easter break.

From Lent to Easter

We have the following events planned in the lead up to Easter -

Next Tuesday: Years 2 and 5 visit to Church (Stations of the Cross).

Tuesday 13th March: Years 3 and 4 visit to Church.

Tuesday 27th March: Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 5) Easter Production in the school hall (at 2.30pm and then again at 6pm). Parents, carers and family members are most welcome to attend these performances.

Brentford Football Club

Our Years 3 and 4 pupils are lucky enough to have been offered some football coaching from Brentford Football Club. They have been taking advantage of these sessions every Tuesday lunch time.

WE Day

Next Wednesday, some pupils from Year 6 will be travelling to the SSE Arena, Wembley, to take part in this year’s WE day celebrations. This event will include performances from A-list artists as well as talks from famous guest speakers. Last year our pupils were lucky enough to see Kate Winslet, Jessie J, The Vamps, Fleur East and Conor Maynard. The aim of this event is to raise awareness of issues affecting children today and to help raise much needed funds for a range of youth charities.

Early Years – Compost & Games Needed

A big thank you to all of the family members who have donated bags of compost and interactive games (e.g. Pop up Pirates, Kerplunk) to our EYs Team (see last week’s Newsletter). Any further donations would be much appreciated and they will be put to good use in our EYs setting.

Costumes Needed

We will be celebrating our annual Book Week during the week beginning Monday 12th March. Our dress-up-day will take place on Friday 16th March, and we have invited all pupils to come to school dressed as their favourite character (from a fairytale or traditional tale).

Other Book Week Events

Also on Friday 16th March, we have invited parents into classes to share stories with their child (or small groups of children).  Parents are invited to attend between 9am and 9:30am.  We would appreciate it if there are any parents who would be willing to share a traditional story from their own country.  We would also love to have dads coming to share stories to small groups in classes as this would really encourage our reluctant boys to read.

On Wednesday the 14th March, all classes (from Reception through to Year 6) will be making their annual visit to Waterstone’s book store, in Uxbridge, to claim their free World Book Day book.  If you are able to accompany your child’s class on this day all help would be appreciated.  A letter will follow soon with the times of each class visit.

Our Bedtime Stories evening will take place on Tuesday 13th March - from 5pm until 5.45pm. Parents are also invited (on this evening) to come to the hall for an informal gathering focusing on the importance of reading and to talk about an exciting project that might be in the pipeline.  So rather than dropping your child off and having to wait around in the cold, why not join us in the hall for a nice cuppa and a talk about reading.

Year 3- Year 5 production

The production will take place on Tuesday 27th March at 2:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

ALL children in Y3 - Y5 are expected to be present for both performances, if for any reason your child can not attend, please write a note to their class teacher explaining the reasons as soon as possible

A big thank you

To everyone who has sent a voluntary donation to the Governors’ Maintenance Fund. This enables us to continue to make improvements to the school environment as we have to pay 10% towards any capital projects.

If you are a UK tax payer please consider Gift-Aiding your donation. This means we can claim an extra 25% from HMRC. If you are a higher rate tax payer you can also reclaim some of the tax that you have paid for yourself when you complete your tax return. For example, if you give £100 a year and Gift Aid it, the school gets an extra £25 and you get £25 back as well – so it only costs you £75 to give £125.

To Gift-Aid please complete the enclosed form and send it to Mrs Law via your child’s book bag.
