Dear Parent/Carer,

Throughout this week, all pupils have been taking various age/ability appropriate tests. The results will be analysed and used to plan targets and appropriate support. Test results will be included in Annual Pupil Progress Reports - due to be sent home at the end of this term. During the last few days, our Year 1 pupils have also taken their statutory Phonics Screening Check. Once the government publishes this year’s thresholds, we will let parents know if their child has met the expected standard in this test. We have received daily reports of some of the fantastic things that Year 6 have been doing whilst on their PGL residential trip including abseiling, kayaking, climbing and a ropes course ending with a zip wire (photos available to view in the ‘Gallery’ on our school website. Yr6 are due to return to school tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow’s Non-Uniform Day

Pupils may wear their own clothes tomorrow, in return for bringing in a filled ‘sweet cup’ for our Summer Fete Children’s Tombola. The PTA sent home an empty cup, last Friday, asking for donations of sweets, stationary, small toys or novelty items.

Maths Week

We will be holding our Maths Week, commencing on Monday, and have planned lots of fun activities for the children to enjoy. This includes

Maths art, investigations, puzzles, games, problem solving and researching famous mathematicians.

Maths Open Morning

We would like to invite all parents to attend our Maths Open Morning on the morning of Friday 22nd June. At 8.45 am, we will be serving refreshments in our hall and there will be the opportunity to view some of the Maths resources that we use in school. From 9.15am until 10.15am there will be the opportunity for you to visit your children’s classrooms to play maths games with pupils or to help with puzzles or investigations. Parents/carers may make their way to the hall after the morning drop-off.

Year 3 Class Assembly

Year 3 will perform their class assembly for parents, carers and family members next Tuesday 19th June. A member of staff will open up the front entrance to school, at 3pm, for visitors to make their way to the school Hall.

St. Peter and St. Paul Mass

We hope you are able to join us for our Mass on Friday 29th June. This will take place in our school Hall, at 2.30pm, and will also be a celebration of those pupils who recently made their First Holy Communion. Our Year 3 pupils will have brought home a letter inviting them to bring in their Communion clothes on this day.

PTA Team Update

Good bye Sue……

Our PTA Secretary,

Sue Serret who was

elected in 2016 is

reluctantly standing

down at the end of

this school year.

She has worked very hard on the team to fulfil our motto ‘a community not a committee’. Many of you will know her for being very at ease holding a microphone in her hand - compere extraordinaire! At the Bingo Night, Race Night and Fetes where her talents came to the fore!

We all wish her the very best in her paid role working for Trinity Homeless Charity. Sue will be heading the team in organising the Big Sleep Out 2018. Find out more, http://www.wearetrinity.org.uk/

PTA AGM Elections

We need to elect a core team ……

Sue’s post of Secretary is an elected post, therefore we need to replace her at our AGM on 16th July 2018 at 8pm - the Beefeater, Premier Inn, Uxbridge.

St Mary’s PTA cannot exist without electing a new Chair, Treasurer and Secretary on an annual basis. Please send your application for one of these posts to Miss Shevlin by Wednesday 11th July at 3.30pm.

In addition, it would be lovely to have a Vice Chair, Vice Treasurer, Class Rep. Co-ordinator and Event promotion Co-ordinator to support the team.

The Giving Machine

7th June – 40 people joined

Raised £113.98

14th June – 44 people joined

Raised £114.40   Hurrah !

Thank you to Miss Shevlin who has sent a welcome email to all of those who have joined the scheme

Quick sign-up this link makes it really easy!!

https://www.thegivingmachine.co.uk/causes/st-marys-uxbridge/support/

TOP TIP – Install the ‘Shop and Give Reminder’ this means you don’t have to shop via The Giving Machine website. Whatever online purchase you are making a Giving Machine reminder will pop up – easy!!

£500 donation!!

A huge thank you to Sophie’s (Y6) Dad, who has secured this donation from his company, O’Halloran and O’Brien.

This demonstrates the importance of personal connections with a business. The PTA regularly write to many companies for support, largely without success. Therefore, please help us by being pro-active with your employer. They can only say ‘no’.

Let’s get that library bus……………….

Be the first parent in St Mary’s to profit match!!

Huge gains, very little effort, we have even written the email

If you work for a large, private company consider sending this email to your HR department this week, they will probably have a match funding scheme

‘Dear Employer   - I am an employee of (Company name) and work in (department). I am active in raising funds for my child’s school, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School. We are currently aiming to raise £20,000 for a school library bus as the school is unable to extend its building and the current library is too small. This is a creative way to have an additional classroom for the children to learn together. We plan different events throughout the year to raise funds and I wanted to ask if our company has a Match Funding Scheme, which supports the local community, as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility?’   - copy and paste into an email today!!

Summer Fete Programme in production,

thank you for all of your offers

Please offer gifts and services to the Summer Fete Silent Auction – you are talented!

This is a big attraction at our Summer Fete. Parents will have a great time bidding for gifts and services. What can you offer?  Do you have any birthday and Christmas presents you would like to donate to the school?  How about offering to cook a meal? Bake a celebration cake? Offering of cleaning? Or language lessons? What are you talented at? Could you ask a local restaurant for a voucher? Do you own a holiday home?  Beauty vouchers?

Deadline Extended Tuesday 19th June 3.30pm
