St. Mary's Pupil Reps Attend WE Day 2016

WE Day

This week, pupil representatives attended the ‘WE Day’ event at Wembly Arena. This was a celebration of youth making a difference in their local and global communities. The event included guest speakers and performers including Rita Ora, Fleur East, Labrinth and Professor Brian Cox. The day was filmed for national television – please follow this link for more information:

Year 4 Trip

Next Tuesday 15th March, Year 4 will be visiting Kidzania, in London by coach. This educational attraction is a purpose built town where children can choose from over 60 real-life role play activities to explore. Pupils should be dressed in their PE kit (tracksuit bottoms, rather than shorts please). Parents should provide a packed lunch in a named disposable bag (unless you have ordered one from our school caterer).

After School Collection

If you have arranged for another adult (other than parents/carers) to collect your child from school – please contact the school office to arrange for their name to be added to your child’s ‘Authorised Collection Sheet’.

If you wish for another person to pick up your child on a one off occasion we ask that you put this in writing and send it into school via your child’s book bag (please do not ask to speak to the office, before school, or leave a verbal message with staff on the front door). Thanks for your help in advance.

Year 6 – Junior Citizenship Day

This week, Year 6 visited Hillingdon Fire Station as a part of their citizenship programme. The visit included lots of practical activities related to their transition into secondary school including: using public transport safely and stranger danger.

Years 1 and 2 Trip

Years 1 and 2 will be going on a trip to the Chiltern Open Air Museum on Tuesday 22nd March.  Children should be dressed in their PE kit and wear a coat.  Please provide a packed lunch if you have not ordered a packed lunch from our caterers.  Children will also need a named backpack.

Year 6 Maths Booster Group

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Mrs Kumars Maths Booster Group will not take place next Monday 14th March. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Schools’ Autism Awareness Week

This year, the National Autistic Society have launched their first ever Schools’ Autism Awareness Week, commencing next Monday 14th March. During this week, we will be visited by Pam Sicklemore (HACs trustee and former Head of Hillingdon Manor School) who will lead autism training with all of our staff.

The National Autistic Society is the leading UK charity for people with autism and their families. Please follow the following link for more information for parent, carers and children affected by autism: http://www.autism.org.uk/About/Family-life/Parents-carers

HACs is a local Hillingdon charity providing support for parents, carers and children affected by autism. This includes an annual calendar of training events and workshops:

Early Years Class Assembly

Next Tuesday 15th March, both lower and upper Early Years will perform a joint assembly for the rest of the school, parents, carers and family members. The main entrance will be opened, shortly before 3pm, for all visitors to make their way to the hall.

Year 5 Trip

Next Friday 18th March, Year 5 will travel, by coach, to the Hillingdon Outdoor Activities Centre (HOAC). Pupils should be dressed in old clothes and wear a coat (depending on the weather on the day). They also require a change of clothes and shoes. If you haven’t ordered a packed lunch from our carers, please provide one in a named, plastic, disposable bag. If the children are likely to return to school late we will keep you informed via our text messaging service, as soon as we are aware. We would be grateful if you refrain from ringing the school, as we like to keep the line free for the call from the teacher. Thank you.

Reading Record Books

As a part of their homework, pupils are expected to read, at least three pages, every night. We ask that parents hear their child read and complete their Reading Record Diary, indicating which pages their child has read. We understand that there may be exceptional cases where a child is unable to read at home on a particular night – if this is the case please make a note of this in your child’s Reading Record. Thank you for your help in advance.

Year 3 Trip

On Thursday 17th March, Year 3 will be visiting the Chiltern Open Air Museum. During the visit pupils will visit a replica iron age round house and they will take part in hands-on activities related to the stone and bronze ages. Children should be dressed in their PE kit and wear a coat (as most of the workshops will take place outside). All pupils need to bring a packed lunch in a named disposable bag (unless you have ordered one from our school caterer). The class is due to arrive back before the end of the school day but we will keep you informed, via text, messaging service if the coach is running late.

Early Bird – Last Day

The last session of Mrs Sullivan’s RM Easimaths group will take place next Friday 18th March. We will be analysing the results of the maths tests taken, by pupils, during this week and will invite a new selection of children to attend a revised group after the Easter break.

Bringing Dogs Onto the School Site

Due to health and safety reasons, we ask that visitors do not bring dogs (except guide dogs) onto the school site. This includes carrying them onto the playground after school and the front entrance before school. Thank you for your consideration.
