Christmas Productions and Performances

The arrangements for this year are as follows:

  • Our Early Years pupils (both Nursery and Reception) will perform their own Christmas Play on Friday 16th December, at 2pm.
  • Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) will lead their performance on Wednesday 14th December, at 2pm and then again at 6pm.
  • Year 6 will lead the singing at our Christmas Carol Service on Tuesday 20th December (this will take place in our Church, from 4pm until 5pm).

As mentioned in a previous Newsletter, instead of a KS2 Christmas Production; Years 3, 4 and 5 will perform an Easter Production at the end of the Spring Term. Just to clarify our reasons for this change; after looking at the liturgical calendar, we realised that we celebrated Christmas with five different performances but not a single event for Easter. We decided to celebrate this season with a KS2 Easter Production to address this imbalance.

Mrs Sullivan’s Early Bird Group

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Mrs Sullivan’s Early Bird maths group will not take place next Tuesday 22nd November at 8.30am. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Friendship Week

Throughout next week we will be celebrating our annual ‘Friendship Week’ in school. The aim of this week is to promote kindness, co-operation and to develop anti-bullying across the school. We have planned a range of activities for the children. Every child will anonymously pick a ‘secret friend’ at the start of the week and make an extra special effort to be kind to this person all week (these will be announced next Friday). Our KS2 classes will ‘buddy up’ with younger year groups to complete activities and to read together. All pupils will cover work on anti-bullying (including cyberbullying) – the National theme this year is ‘Power for Good’. We will be holding a special assembly at the end of the week to share some of the work covered including: poems, art work, stories, acting, posters and songs. It promises to be an exciting and worthwhile week!

Mission Statement Homework

This week we have been reminding the children of our Mission Statement and what it means: “With Jesus we learn together through faith and love.”

As a part of their homework all pupils have been asked to think about the statement and to illustrate what it means to them. They could create a picture, or collage, a written explanation or poem (any size or format). All work should be handed to their class teacher by next Friday 25th November. A prize will be awarded to the most creative designs in each class.

Christmas Fayre Preparation Meeting

Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting at the church on Thursday 17th November at 8pm. We are looking forward to the final preparations of this exciting event for our school community. Please come along to share your ideas and meet other parents/carers. There will be refreshments but feel free to bring along something to share if you wish.

If you cannot make the meeting…

We will have a table outside the school entrance several times this week and next week. We’d love your help on a stall, make a cake, sell raffle tickets, etc. Or contact us at stmaryspta@outlook.com

Thank you to all those parents who…………….

…who have kindly offered to have a board in their garden to promote our Christmas Fayre.  The boards should be going up any day. Their donation of a main raffle prize is hugely appreciated.

Non-uniform day on Thursday 1st December

Your child/children can wear a Christmas themed jumper to school. Please don’t buy one maybe decorate a red or green T-shirt/jumper with tinsel etc.  Christmas colours are fine, any clothes in red and/or green.  In exchange for wearing Christmas themed clothes, please donate a bottle of wine, spirit’s or chocolates for our very successful tombola on the Friday at the Fayre. These will be collected at the school entrance on Thursday 1st December.

Donations of Christmas Decorations, anyone replacing their Christmas Tree this year?

If you are updating your decorations this year, the PTA team would love to have your cast-offs for the Christmas Fayre. We especially need a small/medium Christmas tree. Please email stmaryspta@outlook.com or contact Sarah Wells 07855 998693

How about asking your employer……

to profit-match a stall at our Christmas Fayre, lots of companies want to engage with the local community, their contribution could hugely help our school to purchase equipment/events for our children.

Has your child outgrown their school uniform?

Always a popular stall at school events, please send in your donations of no longer wanted school uniform week beginning Monday 28th November.

St Mary’s Christmas Raffle

Tickets will go on sale on Monday 21st November until Friday 2nd December at 5pm, we will be outside the school entrance in our usual place.

Santa is visiting our Christmas Fayre!

The PTA team are excited to announce that Santa will be visiting our first Christmas Fayre on Friday 2nd December.  To ensure that as many children as possible can visit our special guest, Santa in his grotto, LEY pm and UEY will be able to visit from 2.30pm that day.

If you wish your child to meet Santa here are the options for all classes:

  • Please purchase a ticket for the Grotto outside the school entrance between Monday 21st and 30th November. Though tickets can be bought during the fayre as well.
  • Each ticket costs £4, this will consist of a present and 7x5 photograph mounted in a frame ‘St Mary’s Christmas Fayre 2016’   The photos will be ready on Friday 9th December.
  • LEYs pm and UEYs: When you buy your ticket please inform us whether you will be visiting with your child or you would like their teacher to take them to the grotto. Please note that LEY pm and UEY parents can also have the option to wait until 3.30pm to take your child to the Grotto.

  • All other classes LEY am, Y1 , Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 can purchase a ticket to visit Santa between 3.30pm – 5.30pm on the 2nd December.

  • If we are very busy Santa and his helpers are happy to stay until 6.30pm so all children are seen but please note all other stalls will close at 5.30pm.

  • Santa has informed us that if you have more than one child in the school and would like them all to visit his grotto at the same time and have one photograph of all of them, the ticket will cost £6. Please let us know when buying the ticket if it is for more than one child.
