Thursday 22nd June 2017
The children have had a busy week taking various end of academic year tests. We will analyse the results and use the findings to set individual targets and support. The results will be sent home to parents as a part of our Annual Pupil Progress Reports (due to go out on Friday 7th July).
It was lovely to see so many parents, carers and family members at our Early Years assembly on Tuesday. Our youngest members of the school taught us what it means to be a true ‘super hero’ and how we can all use our gifts to help others. The children said their lines and sang brilliantly!
Thank you for all the donations of luxury items received today and also for all the nearly new uniform, books and toys sent in this week. We hope to see you at our Summer Fete on Saturday (from 12pm). Our PTA have worked extremely hard organising the various stalls and attractions and it promises to be a fun day for all!
Friday – Non Uniform Day
I know this is a very busy week for the school with our summer fair happening on Saturday and an already planned non- uniform day planned for Thursday. I know we are asking for money and help again but it is such an important cause and as a school we feel we should join together with Catholic schools across the Diocese to try and raise money for the families of Grenfell Tower with the planned non uniform day on Friday. As a Diocese we want to show our support both through contributing money but also remembering the Grenfell Tower community in our thoughts and prayers.
Sun Hats and Sun Cream
We are lucky enough to have seen some lovely weather over the last week or two. Please remind your child to apply sun cream before school and to bring in a sun hat and water bottle. We have sun hats available to buy from the school office for £3 each:
·Green baseball caps
·White beanie caps
·Legionaries hats
Early Years Trip
Tomorrow, our Early Years pupils will visit the Look Out Centre in Bracknell. Please remember not to send book bags as children will not need them. Please make sure to apply sun cream at home and send your child wearing school uniform and a sun hat.
Health Week 2017
Throughout next week we will be celebrating our annual Health Week in school. On Friday 30th June we have arranged for Lynne Wilkes to lead some Mindfulness workshops with all classes. These sessions will explore techniques pupils can use to help combat any worries that they may have and to promote mental wellbeing. Lynne has asked if all children can bring a cushion into school on this day. For more information about the benefits of Mindfulness, please visit the following NHS website:
http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/stress-anxiety-depression/Pages/mindfulness.aspx
Group photographs orders
Photographs orders will be collected on next week, please make sure to send your orders by Wednesday 28th June via children’s book bag. Any late orders will need to be posted directly to the photographers by the parent/carer.

Fundraising for the School
We are arranging a clothing collection to raise funds for the school towards the end of the term. At the moment we have very little storage space and would ask that if you have any unwanted clothing you could store them for us. The clothes collection bags will be sent out week beginning 10th July and we ask if these can be brought into school on Monday 17th July as these will be collected on the Tuesday. We thank you in anticipation of receiving lots of bags of unwanted clothing, linens, shoes, bags and belts to raise money.
Parent Governor Election
We will have a parent governor vacancy from September 2017 and would like to invite nominations for this. Our governing body now has a skills matrix in place and we have to be quite specific in experience required, with the candidate perhaps having involvement with the health service or building project management. Depending on how many applications we receive we may need to go to election. Documents describing the role and the qualifications can be emailed if required. Please email office@stmarysuxbridge.org.uk if you wish to register an interest in this vacancy or require more information.
