E-Safety

Using technology can offer many positive educational and social benefits for pupils, but unfortunately there are associated dangers.  Children and young people are vulnerable and may expose themselves to danger, whether knowingly or unknowingly. At St. Mary’s Catholic School we value highly, the rich range of resources and experiences that the Internet, and other technologies, can offer, to both our staff and pupils.  The use of websites and e-mail is embedded into our schemes of work and enables us to teach and learn in ways that were previously unavailable.

The teaching of E-Safety and Cyberbullying is included in the Computing curriculum covered by each class. Every year we hold an annual Friendship/E-Safety Week to promote a sensible use of the latest technology. This includes pupil assemblies, workshops for parents and staff training. We have various policies in place to protect staff and children.
