Friendship Week 2016

The children have been involved in various activities this week promoting kindness and anti-bullying messages. On Monday, every child anonymously picked a ‘secret friend’ and then made an extra special effort to be kind to this person all week (these were announced today). Our KS2 classes paired up with our younger pupils to complete projects and reading together. We held a special assembly this morning to share some of the work completed including: poems, art work, stories, acting, posters and songs. Thank you to everybody who completed our Mission Statement homework as a part of the week – the quality of competition entries was amazing!

Christmas Jumper Day

Next Thursday 1st December, all pupils are invited to come to school wearing a Christmas themed jumper. They may already have one at home, or they could simply decorate a red, or green, top with tinsel etc.  In exchange for wearing Christmas themed clothes, we are asking for donations consisting of a bottle of wine/spirits, or chocolates. These will be collected, at the school entrance, on Thursday 1st December and used as prizes for the tombola at our Christmas Fayre.

Christmas Fayre

This will take place next Friday 2nd December, in school, from 3.30 until 5.30pm. Attractions will include: visits to Father Christmas in his grotto, tombola, raffle, refreshments, arts and crafts, games and stalls. It promises to be a fantastic event and will hopefully raise much needed funds for our school – hope to see you there!

Y4 Trip

As a part of our religious education work on other faiths, Y4 will visit a Synagogue to find out more about the Jewish place of worship.

Mrs Sullivan’s Early Bird Group

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mrs Sullivan’s Early Bird group will not take place next Monday 28th November. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

PTA News

This is a really easy way of raising money for our school…

… we will all be spending money on Christmas over the coming weeks and we have exciting fundraising news. How about using the Giving Machine? You can now help raise donations for St. Mary’s without you even leaving your sofa. And it doesn’t cost you a penny!

We have signed up to www.thegivingmachine.co.uk.

The Giving Machine is a fundraising organisation designed to help charitable causes raise money online.  By signing up and shopping online via The Giving Machine you will generate a free cash donation for the charities of your choice. With all your favourite retailers, including Amazon, EBay, Marks and Spencer, Next, Tesco, Sainsbury, John Lewis and Debenhams you are bound to find what you need and generate a donation.

In order to start raising free donations please go to www.thegivingmachine.co.uk and follow these steps:

  • Click join as a giver. It will ask you to search for a cause. Type in St. Mary’s Uxbridge in the search and then select from the list of results.
  • Click join and support and then enter your details.

You are now signed up.

Make sure you never miss a donation and download the Shop&Give app.

https://www.thegivingmachine.co.uk/shop-and-give/

It takes just a few minutes to install on your web browser and means that every time you click onto a retailer that supports this scheme you will get a prompt asking you to donate.

We still need volunteers...

We will have a table outside the school entrance several times this week and next week. We’d love your help on a stall, make a cake, sell raffle tickets, etc. Or contact us at stmaryspta@outlook.com

Non-uniform day on Thursday 1st December

Your child/children can wear a Christmas themed jumper to school. Please don’t buy one maybe decorate a red or green T-shirt/jumper with tinsel etc.  Christmas colours are fine, any clothes in red and/or green.  In exchange for wearing Christmas themed clothes, please donate a bottle of wine, spirit’s or chocolates for our very successful tombola on the Friday at the Fayre. These will be collected at the school entrance on Thursday 1st December.

Donations of Christmas Decorations?

If you are updating your decorations this year, the PTA team would love to have your cast-offs for the Christmas Fayre. We especially need a small/medium Christmas tree. Please email stmaryspta@outlook.com or contact Sarah Wells 07855 998693

How about asking your employer……

to profit-match a stall at our Christmas Fayre, lots of companies want to engage with the local community, their contribution could hugely help our school to purchase equipment/events for our children

Has your child outgrown their school uniform?

Always a popular stall at school events, please send in your donations of no longer wanted school uniform week beginning Monday 28th November.

St Mary’s Christmas Raffle

Tickets are on sale , £1 per strip - until Friday 2nd December at 5pm, we will be outside the school entrance in our usual place.  1st prize is a Fortnum and Mason’s hamper worth £100 !

Santa is visiting our Christmas Fayre!

The PTA team are excited to announce that Santa will be visiting our first Christmas Fayre on Friday 2nd December.  To ensure that as many children as possible can visit our special guest, Santa in his grotto, LEY pm and UEY will be able to visit from 2.30pm that day.

If you wish your child to meet Santa here are the options for all classes:

  • Please purchase a ticket for the Grotto outside the school entrance between Monday 21st and 30th November. Though tickets can be bought during the fayre as well.
  • Each ticket costs £4, this will consist of a present and 7x5 photograph mounted in a frame ‘St Mary’s Christmas Fayre 2016’   The photos will be ready on Friday 9th December.
  • LEYs pm and UEYs: When you buy your ticket please inform us whether you will be visiting with your child or you would like their teacher to take them to the grotto. Please note that LEY pm and UEY parents can also have the option to wait until 3.30pm to take your child to the Grotto.
  • All other classes LEY am, Y1 , Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 can purchase a ticket to visit Santa between 3.30pm – 5.30pm on the 2nd December.
  • If we are very busy Santa and his helpers are happy to stay until 6.30pm so all children are seen but please note all other stalls will close at 5.30pm.
  • Santa has informed us that if you have more than one child in the school and would like them all to visit his grotto at the same time and have one photograph of all of them, the ticket will cost £6. Please let us know when buying the ticket if it is for more than one child.

We really look forward to coming together as a community and celebrating this very special season.
