Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome back - we hope you had a fantastic Easter break. We’ve been lucky enough to have seen some lovely weather over the last few days (it’s just a shame we didn’t get it last week)! If the warm weather continues, please remind your child to bring in a sun hat (and to apply sun cream before school). Pupils may also bring in a water bottle, as long as it is in a transparent bottle with a sports style (non-drip) lid.

We have lots of events to look forward to this term including our Health and Wellbeing Week, Life Bus visit, class assemblies and Maths Week. Year 6 have a particularly busy term ahead with their end of KS2 SATs tests, residential trip to the PGL centre, secondary school transition activities and their Leavers’ Production and Mass. Please visit our school website for a complete list of dates for the Summer Term:

www.st-marys.hillingdon.sch.uk/

Parents’ Evening

Our Parents’ Evenings will take place next Tuesday 24th April and Thursday 26th April. This will be an opportunity to discuss your child’s latest assessment results and planned targets and support. Your child should have brought home a letter inviting you to request a mutually convenient date/time. If your child has a Special Educational Need (SEN) their teacher will also review their current Individual Education Plan (IEP) with you and also share their revised IEP for the Summer Term.

HACs Coffee Morning

HACS (Hillingdon Autistic Care and Support) are a local charity who provide support to children on the autism spectrum and their families. This support includes regular training events, monthly autism surgeries, respite activities and recreational trips/events. On Thursday 3rd May 2018, two representatives from HACs will be visiting our school to lead a short presentation for parents to speak about the services that they provide. Tea, coffee and pastries will be served at 9.30am, in our school Hall, shortly followed by their presentation. A separate invite will be sent home nearer to the time but you may wish to add this date to your diary/calendar. In the meantime, if you would like to find out more about HACs – please visit their website:

http://www.hacs.org.uk/

Year 3 Swimming Lessons

Year 3’s first swimming lesson will take place next Wednesday 25th April. All pupils require a swimming costume, hat and towel (googles are optional). Girls should wear a one-piece swimming costume and boys require swimming trunks/shorts that are no longer than the top of their knees.

Class Assemblies

The following assemblies and productions have been planned. All parents, carers and family members are most welcome to attend. Year 2 will not be performing a class assembly this term as they did so in the Spring Term.

Request

Some of the classes are planting flowers and vegetables but they have run out of some materials. They would be very grateful for any donations of the following:

  • Compost
  • Plant support sticks or bamboo

Fundraising for the School

We are arranging a clothing collection to raise funds for the school for after half term.  At the moment we have very little storage space and would ask that if you have any unwanted clothing you could store them for us. Clothing can be sent in any black sack or plastic bag. We ask if these can be brought into school on Monday 4th June as these will be collected first thing on Tuesday. We thank you in anticipation of receiving lots of bags of unwanted clothing, linens, shoes, bags and belts to raise money.

We really need your help, this will be our busiest term with the Race Night and Summer fete.

Never been to a Race Night? You are in for a real treat!

No complicated betting odds, a simple way to have great fun

Here’s how it works:

  1. We show 8 pre-recorded horse races throughout the evening, each with 8 numbered horses.
  2. You can bet on which ever horse you think will win the race.
  3. You bet on as many horses as you like (£1 per bet).
  4. You are given a ticket for each bet you make.
  5. When all bets are placed, the race begins and the winner displayed.
  6. If your horse wins you collect your cash prize!

This is such a fun event and gets very competitive so be prepared to lose your voice as you shout for your horse to win!
