Franciscan Friars Visit St. Mary's

Miss Gahan

Congratulations to Miss Gahan on the birth of her baby son. Henry was born fit and healthy, early Monday morning. We wish Miss Gahan, and the new addition to her family, all the best.

Franciscan Friars

On Monday we had the privilege of being visited by Father Nicholas and the Franciscan Friars. They spent the whole day in school, leading an assembly and visiting every class. They taught the children some new hymns with lots of lively actions and musical instruments. Their enthusiasm inspired the children with one pupil remarking, ‘They made religion fun!’

Please visit our website and click on the Photo Gallery at the bottom of the page to see some of the photographs taken during their visit:

Eco Pupil Committee

Our Eco School Council (made up of pupil representatives from each class) meets every half term to make our school more environmentally friendly. Currently they have been monitoring our use of electricity /water and planning measures to reduce their consumption. The children have conducted a whole school assembly explaining how everybody can help, at home and in school.

Book Week – Change Date

Due to unforeseen circumstances we need to change the date of our planned Book Week. This will now commence on Monday 15th June 2015. On Friday 19th June we will be asking all pupils to come to school dressed as their favourite book characters.

Photos with the Chicks

John Delaney (Y4 ) and Joe Varney (Y6) have suggested the pupils have their picture taken with the newly hatched chickens for the charge of £1.00 each and the money raised will be used to fund our new defibrillator.   If you wish your child to have their picture taken please send in the £1.00 donation on Monday.  Photos will be printed off and distributed the following week.  We congratulate John and Joe on this idea.

Early Years

Please can all Early Years pupils bring a sun hat to school. We have seen some lovely sunny days over the last couple of weeks and the children are spending increasingly more time outside. Thank you.

Summer Fete Planning Meeting

Next Friday 1st May we will be holding a meeting, in school, to plan our upcoming Summer Fete. This meeting will take place, in our ICT Suite, at 2.45pm and finish before the end of the school day. All parents/carers are most welcome to attend. The more help we get planning the event – the more successful the Fete is likely to be.  Please see the note from our PTA below:

Dear Parent/Carer,

Our 2015 fete will be taking place on Saturday 13th June: 12 – 3pm

We will need helpers to man some of these attractions.

  • Bouncy castle
  • Swing boats
  • Children’s High striker
  • Small roundabout/carousel
  • Punch and Judy/Magic show

Currently we are in the process of planning what other stalls and foods will be available on the day.

We will need lots of parental support to make sure that the children have a great time. If you are able to spare some time: planning the event, preparing/selling food, manning a stall, or even selling advertising space for the Summer Fete Programme – this would be much appreciated.

We plan to have an auction of promises – this is an opportunity for parents to donate something to be auctioned or offer a service (e.g. 1 plumbing, carpentry, 2/3 hours babysitting, 2 hours cleaning, 1 hour ironing) that can be auctioned on the day.

If you have an idea for a stall and would like to organise it for the fete then we would be really glad to hear from you.

If you work for a company that match funds for charitable events then please contact us.

If you would like to get involved then please try to attend the planning meeting, at school, on Friday 1st May (2.45pm).

Alternatively email stmaryspta@outlook.com (or text 07770 785512) with your contact details and someone will contact you back.

Thank you for your support in advance.
