Healthy Fortnight: Taekwondo Taster Sessions

(Please visit the 'Gallery' for more photos)

Summer Fete 2015

Our Summer Fete will take place tomorrow (Saturday 13th June), from 12 – 3pm. There will be lots of stalls and attractions to enjoy including swing boats, a bouncy castle, high striker, children’s carousel, candy floss, BBQ and licensed bar. Please try your best to attend.

All visitors should arrive via the main entrance to school (off of Rockingham Close).

Helpers

Thank you to everybody who has offered their time to help out at the fete tomorrow. If you have been allocated a stall, it would be helpful if you could arrive by 11am so you can help set it up and be briefed on what to do.

All helpers should arrive via the staff car park gate, off of Waterloo Road. If the green gate is locked please ring Sarah Wells on Tel: 07855 998693 to be let in (we will also leave these details on a poster stuck to the entrance).

Auction of Promises

Thank you to everybody who has offered promises for the auction. The PTA may not have had time to reply to your offer but all promises have been included in this event - so please be prepared to act on your promise.

Year 1 Phonics Tests

Throughout next week, all pupils will be taking part in the Government Phonics Screening Check. This is a short assessment to make sure that all pupils have learned phonic decoding to an expected standard by the age of 6. All Year 1 pupils in maintained schools, academies and free schools must complete the check. The results will help us identify the children who need extra help so they can receive the support they need to improve their reading skills. The check comprises a list of 40 words (and non-words) which the child will read 1:1 with Mrs Chandarana. All Yr1 parents will be informed of the outcome of this check as soon as we get the results back from the government assessment agency. For more details please visit the following website:

Holy Communion Information Session – Year 2 Parents

On Tuesday 30th June, Father Nicholas and Angela will be leading a ‘Holy Communion Information Session’ for all parents of pupils currently in Year 2. This meeting will take place, in school, between 3.30 and 4pm (there is no need to reserve a place).

Energy/Water Use Research

Well done to all of the pupils who picked a country to carry out research about their electricity/water use. The standard of work was excellent!

Healthy Fortnight

The children have had a fun week, taking part in lots of exciting activities to promote health and fitness. On Monday and Tuesday each class from Year 1 upwards took part in Tae Kwon Do Taster sessions, led by 4th Dan Tony Butcher. Tony runs clubs in Ickenham, West Drayton, Denham and Hayes End. To find out more about his clubs, please visit the following website:  http://www.ickenhamtkd.co.uk/

On Tuesday Year 5 entertained us with their fantastic Health Assembly. The children read their lines clearly and concisely whilst teaching us lots about adopting a healthy lifestyle.

At the end of the week, each class took part in a ‘Football Masterclass’ led by Chelsea Football. Please visit the ‘Gallery’ on our website to view some of the photographs taken during the week.

We have planned the following activities to conclude the fortnight next week:

Mon 15th and Tues 16th June: A-Life Heathy Eating and Fun Fitness Workshops (each class will take part in Healthy Eating activities in the morning followed by ‘Fun Fitness Circuits’ in the afternoon).

Wed 17th and Thur 18th June: Saving Londoners’ Lives First Aid Workshops (Years 1 to 6)

Fri 19th June: BT Volunteers Good Communication Workshops (Years 5 and 6). This concludes our series of sessions for Years 1 to 6.

All pupils require their PE kit throughout next week – thank you!

NSPCC Assembly and Fundraising

On Monday Audrey Almeida, of the NSPCC & ChildLine, hosted an Awareness Assembly which highlighted personal safety and explored who children could turn to when upset, concerned or even if they just wanted reassurance.

·         On average ChildLine receives over 70,000 phone calls and 30,000 online contacts every month.

·         Over the 3 days of Christmas (24th-26th December) ChildLine spoke to 4,841 children and counselled a further 1,530.

·         Children call for all sorts of reasons including bullying, physical abuse, relationship issues and self-harming.

Not everyone has someone they can trust and confide in which is why we have chosen to support the NSPCC & ChildLine this term.

Next Wednesday 17th June, pupils in Years 1 to 6 will take part in a Sponsored Spelling Test and Early Years children will undertake a physical activity.  All children will participate in the challenge but can only fundraise with your permission and help.  It would make a huge difference if you would support your children by helping them ask extended family and friends for sponsorship.   As soon as your class has completed the challenge please collect all ‘promised’ money and send it into to school on Tuesday 23rd June.

Audrey will be returning to school on Friday 3rd July to lead a Thank You Assembly with the children.

Paying By Cheque?  Please make it payable to:       “NSPCC Registered Charity”

Crazy Hair Day

Thank you for the generous donations we received yesterday as a part of our Crazy Hair Day. These items will be used to make up the Adult Tombola at tomorrow’s fete.

Please visit our 'Gallery' for more photos from Crazy Hair Day.

Early Years Class Assembly

On Tuesday 23rd June, both lower and upper Early Years will be performing their assembly to the rest of the school. All parents, carers and family members are most welcome to attend. The front entrance to school will be opened, shortly before 3pm, for all visitors to make their way to the hall.

Both Lower Early Years (Nursery) sessions will be combined on this day. Morning Nursery pupils should attend the afternoon session between 12.30 and 3.30pm. Thank you.

Mrs Sullivan’s Early Bird Maths Group

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mrs Sullivan’s 8.30am group will not take place on both Thursday 9th and Friday 10th July. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Years 4 and 5 Football Team

Well done to the Years 4 and 5 Football Team, who took part in a tournament last week, eventually losing during extra time of the semi-finals. All children played really well and their behaviour was a credit to our school.

Book Week

Our annual Book Week will take place throughout next week. We have planned lots of exciting activities throughout the week to promote a love of books and reading.

Tues 16th June: Bedtime Stories (you should have received a separate letter with more information) 5 – 6pm

Fri 19th June: ‘Fables’ theatre show (Early Years and Key Stage 1)

Fri 19th June: ‘Myths and Legends’ performance (Years 3 to 6)

Fri 19th June: Dress Up Day. All pupils are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. Prizes will be awarded for the most imaginative, home-made costumes in each class.
