Book Fair

Next Monday 6th July, we will be holding our Book Fair in school. If you wish to take a look at some of the books we have for sale, please visit the school hall between 3.30 and 4.15pm. Unfortunately we can only take cash payments for any purchases made.

Early Years Sports Day

This will take place next Monday 6th July, at 9.30am, on our Key Stage 2 (Junior) playground. All nursery (Lower Early Years) children should attend the morning session which starts at 8.45am and finishes at 11.45am. If you are attending, you can take your child home with you after the different races/events have finished. If we need to cancel, due to rain, we will let you know as soon as possible via our text messaging service. If this is the case, the back-up EYs Sports Day will take place on Thursday 9th July – also at 9.30am.

Years 1 to 6 Sports Day

Our main Sports Day for Years 1 to 6 will take place on Monday 13th July. This will take place on Uxbridge Recreational Ground (the field adjacent to the school) and will start at approximately 9.30am. All pupils have been divided into one of three House Groups and they will complete various events to earn points for this group. To create a team atmosphere, and to make scoring easier, we are inviting all children to come to school wearing a plain T-shirt that is the same colour as their House:

St. Francis: Green

St. Bernadette: Blue

St. Thomas: Red

Your child should know the group they have been assigned, but if they are unsure, please see their class teacher. If your child doesn’t own a top that is this colour, please don’t feel the need to go out and buy one – just send them into school wearing their PE polo shirt and they will be given a House sticker.

Pupils should come to school wearing their coloured top (or yellow PE polo shirt), school PE shorts and trainers.

They should bring their uniform in their bag to get changed into later in the day. If we need to cancel the event (due to rain) we will let you know as soon as possible via our text messaging service. Our back-up Sports Day is scheduled for Friday 17th July (9.30am).

Year 5 PGL Meeting

On Tuesday 14th July we will be holding a meeting for all parents, of pupils currently in Year 5, to explain the arrangements for their PGL residential when they move up to Year 6. This meeting will take place at 3.35pm, in the Year 5 Classroom.

Test Week

All pupils (from Years 1 to Year 5) completed various tests throughout this week. All data will be analysed and used to plan future targets and support. The results will be included on your child’s Annual Pupil Progress Report that will be sent home on Monday 20th July.

Drum Masterclass

Next Monday we are lucky enough to be visited by former Status Quo drummer Jeff Rich. He will be visiting in the afternoon to hold a series of ‘Drum Masterclasses’ with all pupils from Upper Early Years to Year 6.

Thank you to all the parents who have already made a voluntary contribution to help make this event possible. If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to contribute, please log onto www.schoolmoney.co.uk and choose ‘Drum Masterclass’. Thank you in advance.

Transition Day

Next Tuesday 7th July, we will be holding our Transition Day in school. The majority of our Year 6 children will be visiting their future secondary schools and all other pupils will move up to their new classroom, with their new class teacher. Please view last week’s newsletter (on our school website) for details of our staff allocation for the next academic year.

Year 6 – PGL

Next Wednesday 8th July, all Year 6 pupils will leave school, by coach, for their PGL residential trip. They require a packed lunch on this day so they have something to eat when they arrive at the centre. Pupils should take plenty of old clothing in case of wet weather (please refer to the Yr6 ‘Packing List’ for more information). We have asked the children NOT to bring mobile phones with them. Miss Shevlin will send regular texts to keep parents updated. The coach will leave school on Wednesday at 9.15am and will arrive back at school on Friday 10th July (at approximately 3.30pm). We will let you know via our text messaging service if the children are running late for any reason.

Basketball Club

The last Basketball Club was scheduled for Friday 10th July. Due to a previous cancellation we will be running two extra sessions on Wednesday 8th and Friday 17th July (between 3.30 and 4.30pm).

Swimming

The last swimming lesson, for Year 3 pupils, took place on Wednesday. We will be continuing lessons after the summer break with our Year 5 children.

Years 1 and 2 Trip

Next Friday 10th July, Years 1 and 2 will be leaving school, by coach, at 9.15am to visit Whipsnade Zoo. Pupils should wear their PE kit, sensible shoes for walking and bring a sun hat/rain jacket as appropriate. Children are to bring a backpack (or their PE bag) containing their packed lunch and a water bottle (no book bags please). The coach is expected to arrive back in school before 3.30pm but we will keep you informed, via our text messaging service, if it is running late for any reason.

Mrs Sullivan’s Early Bird Maths Group

The last session, for this academic year, will take place next Wednesday 8th July. Invites to attend a revised group will be sent out during the first couple of weeks after the summer break. The current group has worked very hard this term – thanks to everybody who regularly attended.

Sun Hats, Sun Cream and Water Bottles

We have been lucky enough to have seen some really hot, sunny weather during this week. To shield your child from the sun, please apply sun cream before school and provide them with a sun hat to wear during their break times, PE lessons and upcoming Sports Days. You may also like to send your child into school with a water bottle (that they can drink from during lessons). These bottles should be transparent, labelled with your child’s name and have a sports style lid (to avoid any spills). As a part of our ‘Healthy Schools’ initiative we are trying to encourage all pupils to drink more water (please do not fill water bottles with juices or flavoured water - as these often contain high amounts of sugar). Thank you.
