Health Week 2016
Health Week
All pupils have had a busy week taking part in lots of fun sessions as a part of our Health Week. Activities have included the ‘Bikeability’ cycling awareness training for Year 6 and fitness workshops provided by the Sainsbury’s Active Kids Scheme. Please take a look at the ‘Gallery’ on our website for lots of photos taken during the last few days.
Red, White and Blue Non-Uniform
The children looked fantastic today wearing their various red, white and blue clothes. Thank you to everybody who returned their ‘sweet cup’ – these will make up the children’s tombola at our Summer Fete.
Year 6
Next week promises to be a busy one for our Yr6 pupils. On Monday they will travel by coach to the PGL Residential Centre, in Marchants Hill, for three days of adventure activities including abseiling, archery and raft building. This will be followed by a trip to Chessington World of Adventures next Friday.
Year 1 Phonics Screening Check
Throughout next week all pupils in Year 1 will take this short, verbal test to confirm whether they have reached the appropriate government standard. It will identify the children who may need extra help so they are given support to improve their reading skills. This screening check consists of a list of 40 words, half real words and half non-words, which pupils will be asked to read to Mrs Chandarana. Once the government has published their ‘expected standard’ threshold we will notify Year 1 parents of the results. The children will not be told that they are being formally assessed – instead the check will be presented to pupils as a part of their everyday phonics activities.
Year 4 Book Sale
Thank you to everybody who attended Year 4’s book sale on Wednesday. We are pleased to announce that we raised a fantastic £95. This amount will be used to purchase much needed books for our school library.
Pirate Costumes Needed
Our Early Years pupils are currently exploring the theme of ‘pirates’. As a part of this work our EYs Team plan to create a themed area including a dressing up box. If you have any unwanted pirates costumes that you are willing to donate - please send them into school as soon as possible. They have also requested any donations of costume jewellery that can be used to make up a treasure chest. Thank you in advance.
Allergy & Free From Show - Free Tickets
There are free tickets available for the popular Allergy & Free From Show in Olympia, London which runs from Friday 8th July through to Sunday 10th July. The show is filled with stalls, activities, talks and demonstrations all aimed towards people who suffer from allergies such as dust mites, latex or any other material, intolerances, eczema, coeliac disease or who live ‘free from’ gluten, wheat, eggs, nuts or dairy. This year your tickets will also provide free admission to two other shows that are running at Olympia on the same weekend. These shows are the Just V Show, which is all about Vegan and Vegetarian lifestyles and the Love Natural, Love You show which covers all things natural and organic, encompassing beauty, food, drink homewares, health and fitness. If you are interested in attending any of these shows free tickets can be downloaded from www.allergyshow.co.uk/go/gateway, www.justvshow.co.uk/london/e-ticket-registration or www.lnlo.co.uk/go/PAN-UK. If you would like more information regarding anything mentioned here there will be a poster put up on the noticeboard outside, alternatively you can visit their individual websites.
